Stream Computing
Stream computing allows AMD's graphics processors
to accelerate complex computations working in concert with
today's high-performance, low-latency CPUs.
Along with leading companies and academic
institutions worldwide, AMD is working to build a complete
stream computing ecosystem, one that delivers the performance,
applications, software and tools necessary to turn AMD's
low-cost stream computing vision into reality.

Breakthrough
in Prosthetics
The first prosthetic
hand with five individually powered digital fingers developed by
Touch Bionics automatically adjusts the type and pressure of the
Grip, mimicking a human hand more closely and allowing the
patient more movement. The hand picks up the electrical signal
generated by the muscles in the remaining portion of the
patient's limb, generating a mayoelectric signal. This signal
triggers the fully articulated fingers and a thumb which can be
rotated to enable different grip configurations, which is more
lifelike action and provides stronger grip with less force and
power consumption. The built in detectors tell each finger when
it has sufficient grip on an object and when to stop powering.
Fingers lock into position untill the patient triggers a open
signal through a mayo electric signal. This i-Limb costs around
£8500 in Scotland.
