Student feedback mechanism on Institutional Governance/faculty performance:

Student feedback is collected for each theory and laboratory subject by each instructor at the end of each semester. Standard feedback forms are used and responses are tabulated and presented to the concerned instructor, head of the concerned department and Principal.

Grievance redressal mechanism for faculty, staff and students:

The college has a Grievance Redressal Committee which meets whenever there is a grievance received through any one of the following channels:
  • By way of a complaint forwarded through the proper channel
  • By way of direct letter to any of the college authorities
  • By way of anonymous message received through post/suggestion box/website feedback/email
After due deliberation, a report with recommended action is forwarded to the Principal.

Addmissions:

Bachelor of Engineering (BE)

Eligibility:
The candidate shall have passed the second year Pre University or XII standard or equivalent examinations held preceding the date of entrance test with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, along with one of the following subjects: Chemistry, Bio-Technology, Computer Science, Biology, Electronics and shall have secured not less than Forty Five (45%) percent of the aggregate marks in optional subjects, with English as one of the languages, for admission to Engineering & Technology Courses.
Provided further that the minimum marks for the purpose of eligibility shall be Forty percent (40%) of aggregate in optional subjects in case of candidates belonging to the **Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Classes specified in the relevant Government order for the purpose of reservation in respect of Engineering and Technology Courses.

**Note: The relaxation in academic eligibility is extended only to Karnataka candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Classes.

Those candidates who have passed qualifying examination other than the II-PUC examination of the Pre-University Education Board of Karnataka have to obtain eligibility certificate for seeking admission to BE/BTech degree course from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum, or from the Principal of concerned Engineering college of Karnataka state.

Entrance test / admission criteria:
St Joseph Engineering College is a Religious Minority Institution and admissions are governed as per religious minority institution status, as stated/declared by Government of Karnataka. Selection is based on the merit of the candidate in the qualifying examination and Common Entrance Test (CET) marks. Selection and admission will be provisional and is subject to the norms prescribed by AICTE, VTU and Government of Karnataka. The candidates who meet the qualification are required to appear for entrance test and counselling conducted by the CET cell. Entrance test / admission criteria:
St Joseph Engineering College is a Religious Minority Institution and admissions are governed as per religious minority institution status, as stated/declared by Government of Karnataka. Selection is based on the merit of the candidate in the qualifying examination and COMEDK test marks. Selection and admission will be provisional and is subject to the norms prescribed by AICTE, VTU and Government of Karnataka. The candidates who meet the qualification are required to appear for COMEDK and counseling conducted by COMEDK. All the Karnataka Christian Students who wish to take admission at St Joseph Engineering College are required to appear for COMEDK exam. Entrance test / admission criteria:
NRI students are eligible to take direct admission. Students who wish to get admission through management quota are not required to appear for CET/COMEDK. The admission is subject to the guidelines of Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum and the Government of Karnataka.


Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Eligibility:
Graduate in any discipline with 50% marks (45% for SC/ST) is eligible. KMAT or PGCET scores are considered for admission to MBA programme.

Master of Computer Applications (MCA)

Eligibility:
Candidates must have passed a Bachelor Degree of minimum Three years duration, with not less than 50% of marks in the aggregate of all years.  The candidate must have studied Mathematics OR Business Mathematics OR Statistics OR Business Statistics OR Mathematics & Statistics OR Computer Programming OR Computer Science OR Computer Applications either at degree level or at 10+2 level securing a minimum 50% of marks. Seats will be allotted based on the score obtained in the PGCET-/KMAT entrance tests.

Eligibility:
BE/BTech in relevant branch of engineering with minimum of 50% marks (45% marks for SC/ST) and valid GATE/PGCET score. Course is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgaum.

Academic Sessions
 
Examination System:
Examinations are held at the end of each semester which typically consists of sixteen weeks of academic work, followed by four weeks of examinations and another four weeks of vacation.


Period of declaration of results:
The university (VTU) has recently introduced online evaluation and consequently results are announced typically within a month of completion of exams.


Counselling / Mentoring:
The college has a qualified Counsellor available at all times on the campus. All students are made aware of this and the need for counselling is highlighted to the new students in the first month itself.

The college has an extensive Mentoring System at first year engineering and departmental levels with periodic interaction with academically weak students. The system is systematically monitored and reviewed for effectiveness.


Career Counselling:
The Placement and Training Department conducts career counselling sessions for students in the fifth and seventh semesters. Information on avenues for higher studies in India and abroad, including various competitive examinations such as GATE/GRE/GMAT/TOEFL, is available at the Placement and Training Office.


Medical facilities:
A dedicated dispensary with qualified doctor and nurse is available on campus at all times. The college has special arrangements with Fr Muller Medical College Hospital for medical care of staff and students.


Student Insurance:
Currently student insurance has not been instituted.


Students Activity Body:
A separate Students Activity Body has not been constituted. However students have representation in all college-level bodies such as Cultural Activities Committee, NSS Chapter, IEEE Chapter, ISTE Chapter, Youth Red Cross, AICUF Chapter, etc


Cultural activities:
A college-level Cultural Activities Committee organizes competitions and selects participants for competitive events that take place outside the college, as well as for the college day celebrations.


Sports activities:
The college has a good record in sports and athletics at the university-level. Students from the college have set several records and won numerous prizes in recent years. The College Sports day is held in the first week of March every year.


Literary activities:
Stress is laid on technical writing and students are encouraged to publish papers based on projects executed as part of their academic work.


Magazine / Newsletter:
The college magazine consisting of articles and activities of various departments is published every year. Most departments also publish newsletters from time-to-time.


Technical activities  / TechFest:
The college IEEE Chapter conducts a technical fest called Tiara in October every year. All department-level associations conduct several technical activities such as seminars, workshops and guest lectures. Also most associations also have their own annual TechFests during which technical and cultural competitions are held.


Industrial Visits / Tours:
Short industrial visits are encouraged by several departments during which a local industry is visited by a group of students. Day-long visits to a software development company such as Infosys are held under the banner of the Campus Connect Programme. Final year MCA students undertake a week-long industrial tour typically in the month of October.


Alumni activities:
The Alumni Association of the college arranges alumni meets every year at Mangalore and Bangalore.
